Again, my views on landscape and democratized public space have visually evolved ever so slightly. Graffiti on the back of road signs have become these wonderful tactile metaphors for the debate over public space. They have the potential to become this sort of Dr. Jekyll & Mr. Hyde scenario (depending whom you speak to). Is it decorative, artistic, destructive, disrespectful or obstructive to our everyday landscape?
Currently, I have enjoyed aggressively pushing the signs to the forefront and allowing the landscape to act as a framer. “Stop” is one of my favorites thus far.

Apologies for the yearlong drought. I have been away from my computer for over nine months, thus the lack of activity. Will begin posting new musings quite soon. Thanks. -Chris

DR. STRANGE DRAWINGS (ca. 2003)
I was archiving some slides today from my past and decided to post these as a way to give more dimensionality to my creative process.
At the time of these drawings, I was interested in collapsing the language of linear narratives in preexisting art and bringing them to the brink of pure abstraction, without totally obliterating all semblance of their former selves. I began sourcing comics and thrift story paintings as a throw back to the art that influenced me the most as a child, but then heavily applying my present-day visual sensibilities and desires upon them.
In “Dr. Strange,” I redrew every page of an entire comic book, one on top of the other spanning over four large sheets of paper. My interest in the medium of printmaking was shaken and I decided the best way to deconstruct my love/hate relationship with its Process was to navigate them into other media (such as drawing, painting, etc.).
Anyway down the road, I might post other older pieces from a bygone era on this web page (intermingled amongst my newer work). Giving my old work a chance to interact with my newer stuff seems interesting enough. Seeing these drawings again for the first time is like visiting old friends with whom you’ve grown out of touch.

It only seemed appropriate to honor McQuerrie with a postcard trilogy.

After making the vintage HOTH postcard, I decided to do a Death Star themed one as well.

Ralph McQuarrie (1929-2012)
In honor of the man who’s art I would admire and tirelessly redraw as a child, I threw together this Star Wars themed postcard created from all the wonderful images Ralph McQuarrie dreamt up.
Thank you for being such a part of my childhood. You shall be missed.
